This mural is in honor of Sor Consuelo, the co- foundress of the congregation that founded La Consolacion College Bacolod.
This painting supported by research through
document review of existing historical records on the nomination of Sor Consuelo's sainthood serves as a visual narrative of the life and martyrdom of Sor Consuelo.
This was donated to La Consolacion College Bacolod as my gratitude and legacy to the institution that supported me and my family through the years.

2022 acrylic on canvas 40"x60"
The five representations of women of Negros serve as forms of emancipated multiple significations from the typical "Maria Clara" and Madonna art archetypes. It reimagines the untold role and narratives of women leading a revolution in the history of he Negros islands. The woman with an "agimat" draped around her neck holding a faux rifle made of "nipa" stem manifests the unflinching will of Negrosanons to resist repressive-oppressive foreign and systemic forces preventing their right to self-determination (in the guise of the 4 lin-ays of Negros from the left). A most profound allegorical depiction in the lens of the female gaze vis-a-vis the 1898 Cinco de Noviembre revolutionary tale hinged on the masonic myth of Gen. Juan Araneta.
